One of the first projects in Grow Benzie’s ranch house converting a spare downstairs room into a fully operational sewing studio. With hundreds of hours of volunteer work, and donations from throughout the community- including 6 new Husqvarna sewing machines donated from the St. Ann’s Church Men’s Club in Frankfort- the dream became a reality. Classes and workshops have been hosted throughout the years in the sewing studio, and in 2015 there was conversation of connecting multiple networks within the fiber community under one roof.
In February 2016, thirty participants attended a Valentine’s Tea Party to discuss the future of a Fiber Guild. Experience levels varied from rookie to veteran, amateur to professional, while areas of interest under this “fiber umbrella” included crocheting, knitting, spinning, hooking, quilting and sewing. This informal group of fiber lovers plan on meeting quarterly and welcome newcomers to join these social gatherings anytime.
