SCHEDULE?
6:00pm: Billy Davis Duo featuring Wayne Craycraft
BIO: Billy Davis is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame who is best known for his work with Hank Ballard & The Midnighters and mentoring the legendary Jimi Hendrix. Born in Mississippi picking cotton with his family, Davis moved to “Black Bottom” area of Detroit at age 13 where he started taking guitar lessons and eventually recruited by Henry Booth (Midnighters) at age 18. Davis was a flamboyant figure on stage, and he became known for his energetic stage presence, which featured guitar feedback and was accented with spins and twirls, and backflips while he played, and he was also known to play his guitar with his teeth. In 1959, while playing with The Midnighters in Seattle, he met Jimi Hendrix, who was just 16 at the time, along with Hendrix' father Al. Davis let Jimi play his guitar and gave him some lessons, which was the first time that Hendrix had played an electric guitar. Inspired by Davis' onstage antics and style, Hendrix soon began adopting the stage act that he became known for, including playing his guitar with his teeth, and playing behind his back. Davis remained friends with both Jimi and Al Hendrix throughout their lifetimes.

7:30pm: Community Toast & Recognition
7:35pm: Live Auction

8:00pm: Katy Guillen & The Girls
BIO: With each release, Katy Guillen & The Girls take new strides toward enhancing and expanding their creative process. In addition to being one of Kansas City’s most distinguished acts, they have performed at such high-profile events as the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the King Biscuit Blues Festival, and opened for major acts like The Doobie Brothers and Robin Trower. In five years as a national touring act, the trio has shaped a musical identity rooted in the blues, taking cues from the timeless guitar riffs of Jimi Hendrix to the visionary songwriting of Patty Griffin and the indie rock revivalist sound of Heartless Bastards. Katy Guillen & The Girls have amassed a substantial following across the country for their vivacious brand of roots rock. A seasoned guitarist who picked up her first guitar at age 8 and began participating in blues jams around Kansas City at 14, Katy Guillen established the trio in 2012, when she was offered a support slot for blues supergroup Royal Southern Brotherhood. Being without a backing band, she enlisted the talents of Claire Adams and Stephanie Williams, forming an immediate chemistry that would push her songs to new heights.

10:00pm: K. Jones & the Benzie Playboys
BIO: Celebrating nearly two decades of delivering the roots sound of southwest Louisiana’s Creole, Cajun, and Zydeco music to the Great Lakes region, the Benzie Playboys continue to build their fan base with live performances for two-steppin’, waltzing, and smoking red hot zydeco dancing.
