Diversifying Through Hops and Vineyards

What?
Weekly Potluck. This week's discussion will be diversifying through hops and vineyards. We will explore the basics of setting up a hop lot and vineyard and production.
The discussion will be lead by Thomas Todaro- Viticulture Extension Educator- and J Robert Sirrine, Ph.D. -Senior Extension Educator with MSU Extension.

Todaro’s research focus has spanned cultural practices to improve fruit and wine quality, increase freezing tolerance of bud and cane tissues, and improve efficiency in vine recovery following winter damage. His most recent research has focused on various training and pruning methods on multiple cultivars to determine optimum vine recovery practices after severe winter injury as well as determining optimum sustainable practices for Riesling grape production in Northwest Michigan. Since joining MSUE in August, 2017, Todaro has led continued vineyard expansion at the Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research and Development Center.

Dr. Rob Sirrine is a Senior Extension Educator with Michigan State University. He provides statewide leadership for hop education, research, and outreach. He is also a member of the MSU Community Food and Environment Institute, Community Food Systems work team, and affiliate of the MSU Center for Regional Food Systems.
