Benzie County Players

History

The Benzie County Players (BCP) is a 47 year old community theater group, founded in 1979 when Woody Henry produced and directed Love Rides the Rails in the fall of 1979 and See How They Run in May 1980 to benefit Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital. The amateur performers were so pleased with their success that they decided to form an organization which would be dedicated to play production and open to all people interested in any aspect of the theater. 

Throughout the years the group has performed over 200 shows in Benzie County on local stages, in restaurants, community spaces, and more. Some may even remember dinner theater shows at the Sail Inn in Benzonia or Steve Elrick as The Grinch visiting elementary students. 

Since the passing of the organization's most committed board directors, directing volunteers and actors; Steve Elrick and Andy Mollema, the Benzie Players have been led by Rachel Evans-Higgins, Cory Bissell, and Randi Stoltz-Flynn. Most recently the BCP made the decision to join Grow Benzie as a fiscal sponsor. With the collaboration and support of Grow Benzie, the Players are able to continue operating as a group committed to enhancing our Benzie County community with theater arts.
